More than three weeks after setting a self-imposed deadline to finish an internal investigation into her use of taxpayer funded flights for campaign purposes, Senator Mary Landrieu has missed that deadline. Air Mary ignored her own Sept. 8 due date, raising more questions about Chartergate and how serious she is about getting to the bottom of it.
Media reports have so far identified at least four private campaign flights paid for by Landrieu’s Senate office, a violation of federal law.
“Senator Landrieu used this internal investigation to give herself some breathing room while her campaign was struggling, and now the time has come for her to be held accountable,” LAGOP Chairman Roger Villere said. “Living in Washington, D.C. for the last 17 years and being little more than a rubber stamp for the Obama Administration has given Louisiana voters plenty of reasons to question Senator Landrieu. Continuing to evade queries over her high-flying lifestyle only adds to Louisianians’ doubts that Landrieu is still one of them.”
