BATON ROUGE- Today, in the face of unprecedented harassment, all eight Louisiana electors voted to elect Donald J. Trump as President of the United States and Mike Pence as Vice President of the United States. In November, over 58 percent of Louisiana’s voters cast their ballots for the Trump/Pence ticket. Since that time, Louisiana’s 8 electors and 8 alternate electors have been targeted by an unprecedented effort from out of state Democrats with tens of thousands of harassing emails, reams of hate mail and phone calls.
Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler began today’s ceremony and then handed the gavel over to Charles "Charlie" Buckels, CD3 Elector from Lafayette, LA who was elected Chairman of the Louisiana Electoral College by the 8 person body. Steven "Scott" Wilfong, At Large Elector from Baton Rouge, LA, was elected Secretary.
Soon after being called to order at noon, the Louisiana Electoral College cast all eight of its electoral votes for President in favor of President-elect Donald J. Trump. The body then proceeded to cast all 8 its electoral votes for Vice President in favor of Vice President-elect Mike Pence. The Electors then certified their votes and adjourned the meeting shortly after 12:30.
Roger Villere, Chairman of the Republican Party of Louisiana released the following statement upon the conclusion of the day's events:
"The Republican Party of Louisiana thanks the Electors for carrying out their constitutional duty in the face of unprecedented pressure from out of state leftist organizations. The people of Louisiana and citizens of the United States owe a debt of gratitude to all the electors who carried out their constitutional duty and represented the will of the people of their state. We enthusiastically welcome the results of the 2016 Electoral College in ratifying the election of President-elect Donald J. Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence.
