Republican Party of Louisiana Calls Upon President Trump to Pardon First Lieutenant Clint Lorance

Baton Rouge- The Republican Party of Louisiana unanimously passed a resolution at its most recent State Central Committee that calls for the pardon and exoneration of First Lieutenant Clint Lorance.

An excerpt from the resolution reads, "First Lieutenant Lorance made the quick but spot-on decision to order his men to fire upon a motorcycle gunning toward his vulnerable foot patrol, as intelligence reports had shown this to be a common method of attack by the Taliban against US troops."

First Lieutenant Lorance was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in 2013 for ordering soldiers in his unit in Afghanistan to open fire on three men on a motorcycle who were approaching his patrol.

DNA evidence released after trial showed that the men killed in the engagement were Taliban fighters linked to the death of 6 U.S. Army soldiers and one Canadian soldier.

"Our military members sacrifice so much in order for us to enjoy freedom and security. It is an injustice for First Lieutenant Lorance to be sitting in a prison cell after having made the right decision to protect himself and the lives of his men. I hope that President Trump looks very carefully at this young man's situation and determines that a pardon is in order." - LAGOP Chairman Roger Villere.
